MFA Interim Exhibition: “How We Got There” Catalyst Arts, 2017
In Death Is Elsewhere (2017), I researched – Dutch artist Bas Jan Ader’s disappearance at sea from the perspective of his abandoned boat, The Ocean Wave.
Glimpses of Ader’s 1970’s performances emerge and fade like memories or dreams, choreographed to the disembodied voice of the narrator. The layers of juxtaposed imagery create a sense multifaceted ambiguity, mirrored by boat’s implausible monologue.
